Who we are

Prim and Proper Cattery is a veterinarian-owned British Shorthair and British Longhair cattery dedicated to producing healthy, beautiful kittens with the temperament and structure these breeds are known for. Our approach is shaped by both professional medical knowledge and a genuine love for raising kittens in a calm, enriched, home-based environment. We prioritize health testing, intentional pairings, early observation, and around the clock daily hands-on care.

Our few litters per year (3) always receive close monitoring, thoughtful weaning support, social exposure to children, family, dogs, kitty carriers, daily cleaning including vacuuming, nail trimmings, brushing, cuddling/carrying/holding, and a healthy transition plan designed to set each kitten up for success.

We are a closed cattery and do not offer in-home visits. This helps us protect the health and stability of our cats and kittens while maintaining a low-stress environment.

More About Megan and the Family:

Megan’s love for animals began long before she could even put it into words. By the age of five, she already knew she wanted to become a veterinarian and one day have a home filled with animals. While the dream of a full farm is still in the works, she has created exactly what she envisioned—a home centered around animals, care, and connection.

A lifelong learner, Megan earned her bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Biochemistry, followed by a post-baccalaureate in Biomedical Sciences, before completing Veterinary Medical School earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. She then pursued a rotating internship, where she discovered her passion for critical care—especially caring for neonatal and ICU patients during some of their most vulnerable moments.

Since then, Megan has spent her career working in busy specialty and emergency hospitals, collaborating with board-certified specialists in critical care, cardiology, internal medicine, surgery, and neurology. This experience continues to shape her standard of care, allowing her to bring a level of medical knowledge and intention that is uncommon in breeding programs.

Her journey with British Shorthairs began over a decade ago. Drawn to their calm temperament, round features, and deeply loyal personalities, she quickly fell in love with the breed. Like many in the United States, she found them difficult to access, which only deepened her commitment to learning everything she could about them.

After years of education, travel, and building her veterinary career, Megan finally reached a place where she could bring that vision to life. What started as a love for one breed grew into a true passion for preservation, ethical breeding, and sharing these exceptional cats with thoughtfully chosen families.

After years of research, mentorship, and dedication, she officially entered the breeding community—approaching it with the same level of intention and professionalism that defines her veterinary work.

Megan is supported by her husband and daughter, who are both deeply involved in the daily life of the cattery. Their daughter can often be found gently carrying kittens around the home or taking them for neighborhood strolls in her pet stroller, while her husband—once unsure about cats—has fully embraced the breed and now plays an integral role in their care and has full blown cat-dad pride. He is also the builder behind many of Megan’s ideas, bringing to life custom cat walls, climbing spaces, and catios that enrich the kittens’ environment.

Together, they have created a home where kittens are not only raised with exceptional medical oversight, but also with constant socialization, love, and real-life exposure—preparing them to transition seamlessly into their future homes
